**fangirl squeeing**

Steven Brust wrote a fanfic novel for Firelfy! And then proceeded to publish it under the Creative Commons license! Go forth and download, and read.

This is squeeful on so many levels. One, Steven Brust is one of the 'greats' IMO, as far as writers of our time/generation, whatever. Two, a name author wrote a fanfic novel - oh, sure they do it all the time, they're called media tie in books, except this sort of blurs the line, you know? And three, dudes, it's Firefly - it's Steven Brust writing Firefly.

*is extremely happy*

Wonder how that works? Creative Commons licenses allow you to open your own copyrighted work for others' use. But it doesn't allow you to use others' copyrighted work without their permission.

So did Whedon open his copyrights? Interesting.
