Novel update
The novel has reached that sort of magical place in the writing, where I think about it all the time, even long after I've gotten my words in for the day and I need to be thinking about other things. When I go to bed at night and attempt to pick up whatever book is currently on my nightstand, my brain objects - it doesn't care what happens next in that book. It wants to read/write/find out what happens next in my book.

In fact, I know what happens next. That's part of the magic. Things are starting to fall together, as dthon said the other night when I was talking to him about this, it's sort of like putting the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together after you've already figured out where they all go.

Conversely, it's also when I begin to doubt myself the most. The words (for the most part) come so easily during this time when I sit down at the computer, part of me wonders if it's all just complete crap. I don't know how to explain it, exactly. But I keep going, and keep writing, and usually the most unexpected things happen. Characters react in ways I didn't anticipate, brilliantly, plot points link back to other plot points in ways so perfect and unexpected, and I have no idea how it happened. (My theory is, my subconscious planned it like that.) It's fun and exciting, because even though I know where the story is going, these amazing things still come up that surprise me.

I have to enjoy this time while it lasts, because after this comes 'the ending that never ends', that time when the end of the book is so close, and yet no matter how many words I write, it feels like I'm running in place all the way up the very last chapter.

That is a fabulous place to be in a novel, even with all of the doubts :D For me, it's getting past the point of starting, and realizing this novel is going somewhere and isn't a false start.

Yes, that makes sense to me - this fabulous place started about the same time this started to really feel like a novel, you know? Even though I never really had any doubts that this was going somewhere, it's like I had to put so many words into it before it finally felt like a real book.

I don't get many false starts anymore, but even then... there's just a point where you're just writing and writing, and then it starts to look like a novel. That's about 20k for me.

I like this part, it's the part where I get chapters faster.

And here's the "Where there's a whip" song to keep you moving.

LOL. :-) Yes, this is true. Since Chapter 13 is already half done.

You know, now that I see this, I remember the obnoxious songs being in this movie. Ugh. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea ta the time. I mean, Disney has songs in all of their animated movies, right?

I thank God for the new LOTR movies to replace these.

Yes, that reviewer was spot on, if my vague memory of the movie is at all accurate.

Also, quite funny. :)

I love it when that happens. It hasn't happened for me on White Spirit yet, but I have faith it will.:)
