White nectarine = my favorite fruit on earth, at least of all those I've tried. Regular nectarines used to hold that honor, but the white variety are just fabulous. *munches*

No jewelry post today! I know, shocking. I spent much of my weekend not doing jewelry, and tonight I have a class to teach at the bead store, so probably nothing new tomorrow, either.

Instead, I cleaned house, spent some time with the husband being lazy, went grocery shopping, went to Costco, um, oh yeah, got a pedicure, and read stuff on Kindle. That's about it. Very exciting, I know.

Next weekend we go camping, and I can't wait! We are trying a new campground this year, and I have high hopes. :)

Wait, why is there a Mercy icon on this post?

Because this morning, I spent some time writing. The new opening to Consort is vastly better than the old, Word-eaten opening I lost. I am quite pleased, really, and now the book is begun! Since beginnings are the most difficult part for me (half the time I end up rewriting them after the first draft is done), this is excellent news. Already my brain has found ways to tie this beginning into other important things later. Usually that doesn't happen until I'm much deeper in than a mere 500 words.

I'm actually quite excited and nervous about writing this one. While yes, I know everything that happens, and I'm anticipating this book to be, hmm, more exciting? More action packed? More...something, than the first, this is still the first direct sequel I've ever attempted. I'm nervous about little things, like how much exposition regarding the last book is strictly necessary? In my head, this is just a smooth continuation of that last book. Same POV character(s). It isn't meant to be a stand alone that anyone could pick up, though I suppose they should be able to...

In any case, for now this is just the first draft. Get words down, worry about little stuff later.

I wrote the last one in four months. I'm hoping to beat that personal record.

And WTH, here's the opening, for those curious few:

Mercy hurt all over. Her body ached, her arms were sore, and her implant informed her of half a dozen new contusions forming in various painful locations throughout her body. She muted the damn thing, tired of listening to it catalog her bruises.

She counted herself lucky it couldn’t record the biggest one, to her pride.

“Get up.” The tone was bland, even bored, but there was no mistaking the words for anything less than a command.

Mercy closed her eyes. She didn’t hear the other woman move, but a moment later felt Atrea looming above her. The relentless bitch.

“But it’s comfortable down here,” she said, aware her own voice wavered perilously close to petulant. God, how much longer did this training session have?

“Now, Mercy. Or we can work on ground fighting, if you prefer.”

With a sigh, she opened her eyes and forced her body to move. Ground fighting meant working with Radek, who outweighed her by at least a hundred pounds. That would be worse. She sat up, wincing, and glared up at the petite blond woman standing above her.

“Aren’t you supposed to be under my command?” she muttered, forcing herself to her feet. Atrea smiled, her blue eyes pitiless.

“Absolutely. When your command doesn’t interfere with my mandate to protect you. Lucky for me, training your pathetic ass to stand even half a chance in a real fight falls within that mandate.”

Lucky. Right.

Expect the first wordcount meter later today. :D

Yay! :-D

Me, too, so far anyway.

Also: *chortles at your icon*

Oh, wow. I am somehow missing Atrea from my icon cast of characters. I really must rectify this. Well, there's always Cannon. :)
