Really, SciFi?
I have the day off, and I decided to catch up on SGA over breakfast.

During a commercial, I saw an ad for a truly awful looking low budget "fantasy" show, that looked along the same lines as the old Beastmaster movie, as far as quality goes.

And then I saw it was called "Legend of the Seeker".

And then the brunette woman yelled "Richard!" at the kind of forgettable guy who's starring.

And my brain went "No.  Tell me they didn't go there."

But the did, didn't they?  Skiffy made some terrible fantasy show based off the Sword of Truth books, didn't they?

I am both horrified, and amused.  Because as much as I loved those first three books or so, by the end of the series, my feelings had become as bitter and conflicted as I imagine any jilted lover feels.   On some level, I find the idea of the SoT series being reduced to Beastmaster cheesiness fabulously poetic.

You crack me up! Haven't seen that ad, these are the books that went awry, and the author pissed you off, yes?

SciFi baffles me regularly.

Indeed, yes, that would be the series in question.

The TV show looks like....lower production values than the Beastmaster TV show, which was a step below Xena.

So very sad some of the horrors SciFi produces.

Hee. I loved the first four books, hated the next couple-few I read, and refuse to read the rest. My husband's keeping up with them (I think he feels loyalty since he's from Maine and has met TG and had several of his books signed), but I feel no such loyalty! If I want to be preached at I'll go to church...or at least find somebody who's entertaining me while they do it!

I don't think Skiffy has anything to do with LotS. It's Disney-ABC Domestic Television. And I kinda love it like I loved Xena and Hercules. In fact, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are behind the show. The ads for it do make it seem cheesier than it actually is and I thought it was going to be complete and utter crap, but since it was a Raimi/Tapert production, I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did, because while it is, yes, a bit on the cheesy side, I also find it to be quite charming. The locations are gorgeous--it's shot in New Zealand--and the production values aren't bad at all considering the lower budgets syndicated shows usually have.

The Sword of Truth purists are up in arms, of course, even though the show has claimed from the start to be a loose adaptation of the Goodkind novels. From what I've heard about the novels, I think I'm glad of this.

Anyhow, looks like I have another guilty pleasure on my hands. ;)

I read the first book and hated it with a passion, so I'm terribly amused that it is now a hilariously cheesy TV show.
