Blah.
No good news today on the job front.

My boss took me out for a farewell lunch today. The good news: several people here on site will continue fighting for us after I'm no longer on site. The bad news: for all intents and purposes, tomorrow is my last day.

I know some people who have had moderate success in the freelance writing world. Writing articles for various websites and the like. I'm thinking about looking into that, instead o just sitting around collecting unemployment and waiting for a job that might not come. Anyone have any advice about how to get into that? I do have a (fiction) pro sale, so that's some experience, I suppose.

*BIG HUGS* I hope it's only temporary and you're back ASAP!

As for freelance writing, I have no idea. J got into that a while back by approaching a website and offering to write articles in a section where they didn't have writers for, and he did it for free for a while until the website owner realized that his stuff was drawing most of his traffic (and then he started getting paid). But that was a "I fell into it" type of thing.

I'm sure you have this one bookmarked:

But how about this:

And I've also found freelance writing gigs on Craiglist.

*sigh* I'm sorry things aren't looking better. Job searching is so tiresome and depressing. I hope it doesn't come to that for you. *hugs*

I'm so very sorry that you have to go through this. You may want to check this site out as far as online work.

Rhien, my God, I've been so behind on LJ I totally missed this was happening. I'm so sorry, honey, that's so hard, and so shitty, and I'm glad you still have some coworker support at least. I wish I had advice, or something, but for now: *massive hugs*

I'm a freelance writer, not at a living wage yet, but considering that I'm preggie and distracted all the time, all sales are considered miraculous. :) Good sites: www.writersweekly.com - they are also a paying market, as is www.fundsforwriters.com. Both offer excellent advice and list paying markets.
One of my biggest sales was found via fundsforwriters, to You & Me magazine - America's Medical magazine - it's an ezine that pays very well _on acceptance_ for true-life stories about medical experiences from the layperson's POV. Mine was about my last pregnancy and paid $250.
You can go to Elance or Guru.com... but I haven't found anything good there for months, and they take a %, and the pay for most writing jobs is, well, insulting and impractical for people who want to make more than $2 an hour.
Pretty much, you don't need a resume to freelance - you just need to pitch articles and follow through.
