Discovering Bpal!
Okay, I KNOW there are many Bpal fans on my f-list!  I am just discovering/trying them.  But the sheer volume of different scents they have is overwhelming!  How do I know what to order?

In my personal perfume adventures so far, I've been enamored with Thierry Mugler's ANGEL for many years.  Notes: Bergamot, Hedione, Helional, Honey, Dewberry, Red Berries, Vanilla, Caramel, Patchouli, Chocolate, Coumarin.

I also like Coco Chanel Mademoiselle Notes: orange, bergamot, jasmine petals, morning rose, patchouli and vetiver

I've ordered Red Lantern 2011, but I'd love some other recommendations!

You can search by notes on bpal.org and find a list of scents that contain those notes.

Lemme go through my imps and see what I have. I'll send you some samples :)

Also, if you join sinandsalvation, people host decant circles so you can try new stuff for cheaper.

Their search feature isn't available right now, sadly. It says they're revamping it, so hopefully it will return soon!

Oh, samples would be lovely! That's very kind of you. :) Checking out that community now.

This site is good too.

That link goes to my profile but you can look up different scents and find out what notes are in them and stuff.

WOW! That site is awesome! Is that all the scents listed, and the ones with the stars are the ones you've tried?
The Teasemastertinylegacies on February 18th, 2011 05:00 am (UTC)
No, that's just all the scents I have tried. Some I didn't end up rating for whatever reason. There are lots and lots more than that :)

Oh my gosh! LOL. :)

I like Pink Moon, if you can find some. It's LE, though sometimes it gets revised. I wound up getting rid of most of mine though, because I was spending too much money on that and Lush. *G*

Ah, yes. How well I know the temptation to spend on Lush! I will have to be careful, now that I've discovered Bpal.

I stopped posting my reviews...a while ago, but you can go through my bpal tag for what's up there. And yes, going through the search on their site or elsewhere and finding scents with notes you like is good, but often you'll find you don't know the notes or mixture of notes you like at the start. Like there are some I can't stand on their own or in some blends, but in others they are fantastic. I can send you a set of samples out of the general catalog (GC is how you'll see that abbreviated on the communities) that I've gathered over the years, if you'd like. Unless/until there are notes you should definitely avoid (which not everyone has, but I've got a few that are very common in blends), it's worth trying anything. Oh, and falling in love with old limited editions (LEs) is dangerous.

Oh, reviews! Awesome!

Oh, that would be fantastic! Wow, people are being so generous with samples. That will be wonderful for helping me narrow down which notes work for me, and which don't, without me buying tons of imps from the site.

I can just imagine how dangerous those LE are. With my luck, I'll find my Holy Grail scent, and it will be something they will never make again!

I'll e-mail my addy, and I can't wait to go through and read some of your reviews! :)

Someone sent me like...fifty imps? A few years ago? Long story short, Neil Gaiman was working on his scent line with BPAL and they sent him like 300 samples and he was like UM WHAT and gave them to her, and she was like I WILL NEVER USE ALL THESE and so she sent some to me.

Which, accordingly, I have rarely used. SO. If you want, I could probably send you, a dozen or so imps to experiment with? :D Email me your mailing address if you're interested, m'dear.

Oh, wow! That's like...six degrees of Neil! It's funny. I narrowly missed meeting him once at Powell's Books (and getting my Sandman #1 signed, sigh), and I seem to keep meeting people who have met him, and now I'll be getting Bpal samples that were sent to him.

It's like the universe is taunting me!

I'll send you my snail addy, and thank you so much!

*Edited because autocorrect spellcheck is dumb!*

I adore BPAL a lot. If you join the forums (BPAL.org), they do have handy threads for recommendations based on specific types of scents, as well as review threads for EVERYTHING.

I have billions of imps rattling around in shoeboxes, btw. I'd be happy to send you some!
