Why do I do this to myself?
Rumors are once again circulating about the possible X-men 4 movie, and no, I'm not talking about the Wolverine or Magneto spinoffs. I've stayed far, far away from anything associated with the Wolverine movie. After the debacle that was X-3, I am wary. See, Wolverine was my favorite character of ever in the comics, right up until they had Magneto rip out his adamantium skeleton. By then, they'd already trashed my second favorite character, Psylocke (the whole Revanche storyline - W.T.F. marvel? Why didn't you just throw gasoline on the Chris Claremont/Jim Lee backstory and throw a match? It would have been less painful), and destroyed my OTP, Gambit and Rogue, so it was the final straw. I canceled my subscription and never looked at another issue. It pretty much killed my comic collecting, come to think of it.

So anyway, yeah. I'm a little gun shy and scared of what may happen for the Wolverine movie. Not to even mention X-4. I do not own X-3. I will not own it. Even though Superman Returns was awesome, it made me weep for the loss of Bryan Singer from the X-franchise. It could have been so incredibly awesome. Dark Phoenix was one of the quintessential X-storylines ever!

All right, this isn't going to turn into a rant of all the things horribly wrong with X-3. But then I see these rumors about X-4, and can't decide whether to stab my eyes out, or allow myself the utter idiocy of hope. Hope that it could be awesome. Hope that they will in fact cast Josh Holloway as Gambit, as has very recently been rumored on my f-list (I have been unable to find any hard evidence of this via the web, or, indeed an actual greenlight for X-4, but apparently it is very possible.) Could you imagine? To see Gambit/Rogue on the big screen....I am so easily swayed by my ships, damn it.

Also, there for awhile it was rumored that Joss Whedon might direct it. Unsubstantiated, but just these rumors alone are enough to have my traitorous heart hoping! I could possibly forget all about X-3 and my washing my hands of the franchise if either or both of those rumors were to see fact.

I am so weak.

You think Rogue and Gambit will still hook up even if Josh is cast as Gambit? And remind me again, didn't Rogue give up her powers in X-3?

she did, but then they had that whole thing where Magneto started getting his powers back, so one assumes Rogue will, too.

And apparently TPTB have considered casting someone older as Rogue because of actor age differences. Which they could have avoided in the beginning by not making her so much younger than her comic book self.

So right there with you. I was furious with the X-Titles, gave them up, and rarely pick up comics anymore.

Is it just us comic chicks that have been turned off? Are fanboys somehow more able to navigate random changes in backstory, etc? UGH.

Though movie!Gambit would kick ASS.

I have no idea, but comics are horrible at continuity - it used to really irk me everytime the Uncanny X-men changed writers/artists, cause the new people inevitably rewrote backstory for one or more characters, or even disregarded whole sections of storyarcs in general. I would rant and rave at the local comic store owners (who were friends) saying things like "Did they even read any back issues?!"

Perhaps as people get fed up and quit reading, a new generation of readers comes onboard, essentially keeping circulation about the same?

And at least locally, I was one of the very few female comic readers. I don't know how many of us there are...

Dude, what I would give to see Gambit done right on the big screen. *fans self*

I love my Wolverine, but he was never as sexy as Gambit. ;)
