All right, fandom, help a girl out!

I want to go to a convention this year. Something not too expensive to get to, but with plane fares dropping all over the place, I might get really lucky! Somewhere I can meet some of you, and somewhere I can just kick back and be a geeky fangirl and have a good time, and not think about any of the stress that has occupied my life lately.

I've been wanting to do this for over a year, but the husband isn't interested in fandom. Still, that just means I'll want to know someone else going. What Cons are you all hitting in the US this year, why, and which ones do you recommend if you're not hitting any, but you maybe have in the past?

Truthfully, the only one I've been dying to get to? Is Comic-Con.

I know. *le sigh* I would LOVE to go. But July is not the bestest time, and I'd need to book WAY in advance and split a hotel room with someone, etc.

But gosh would I love to go!

Come to Dragon*Con! It's the best convention I've ever been to. I went last year and I'll be going this year as well. Labor Day weekend in Atlanta: Dragon*Con!

Short notice - but come to Radcon, in February...

(I'm Guest of Honor this year [grin])

But if you want to go to ONE con this year, I'd seriously recommend Wiscon. It's one of the best EVER cons. All the cool people go there and they have an awesome dealers room, too.

If I can get my act together, Dragonhubby and I are looking at Dragon Con. It's the closest to us, and it's not too terribly expensive. It's held on Labor Day Weekend.

I'd recommend Dragon Con. I've only been to one, but it was awesome and I met so many of my flist and a lot of people who aren't on my flist but who I interact with occasionally on other forums. There's just so much to do/see there!

ETA: hit post too soon. This icon? Was made from a pic taken at Dragon Con. Alas, the friend who made me the icon wasn't able to come to D*C.

If the location (Minneapolis) and time (July 31-Aug 2 2009) work for you, come to writercon! It's all about the fanfic, and 99% of the attendees are LJ peeps.

Disclaimer: I am on the concom.

Isn't vividcon mostly about videos...? I may be totally wrong.
