Disliking the main character is never a good sign.
Am on episode eight of True Blood.  I remember being indifferent to Sookie in the books, but good grief, she's such a self righteous, selfish little bitch half the time, I'm beginning to actively loathe her.  Tara comes to her because her Mom is sober for the first time she can remember, and Sookie is all "Don't you ever think about anyone but yourself?"  OMG!

By the end of the episode, I'm wondering if Sookie was the real reason I stopped reading the books, not Bill.

Oh god, Sookie on the show is just terrible. I can't stand her. I don't think she benefits from losing the first person POV from the books that lets you see what she's thinking when she seems to be acting like a bitch/idiot. And she WAS pretty annoying in the first few books when she spent all her time being besotted with Bill. So I'm hopeful her character might evolve, but not very much.

I never read the books, but I didn't make it past the third episode.

I could go on and on to explain why, but then I'd be hijacking your journal :)
