Secret Circle
So, I finally watched the episodes I've had stockpiling on my Tivo. So far, I'm enjoying it a lot. These were my favorite books by LJ Smith back in the day, so I had some expectations. I was glad to see Nick being portrayed as the damaged, aloof hot guy he was in the series, instead of the "sweet" guy he came off as in the trailer.

...and then, I got to the episode before last, "Slither". WTH, show? So, Nick is dead?? Um, doesn't that break the Circle's magic, for one thing? Not to mention, killing off one of the main characters. Perhaps I'm prejudiced, since Nick was one of my favorite characters from the books, but I do not like this. Where are you going from here? I'm pissed off enough, I'm not watching the latest episode quite yet.

I won't reveal anything in case you consider it spoilery, but they do address the broken circle business. I also think the reason they killed Nick off is because, well, lets face it, the actor was pretty bad. Definitely the weakest link. I'm guessing that even as early on as the series getting picked up by the network after they liked the pilot, they had begun casting for Nick's replacement. (I hope that's not giving away too much either, but you had to know they'd get another guy in there, otherwise, the girl to guy ratio would be four to one.) I can see how it would piss you off as a reader of the series. I'm just wondering why they didn't try to cast a better actor in the first place. Were they rushed for time and Louis Hunter was the best they could do? Or maybe they hired him based on looks alone and hoped he'd get better but when that didn't work out, bye-bye Nick? Ah, well. Sorry to hear he was your favourite. I'd be pissed off too.

I just feel so bad for Melissa, poor thing. I think she's my favourite character, though I really like Diana as well. (Never read the books, btw.)

I was mostly meh with the show at first but I think they really stepped it up in episodes four and five and I'm now in it for the long haul.

Hee! Tyler and Caroline!

Sorry, I got distracted by your icon. :)

Yeah, the girl to guy ratio was my second thought after Nick's death. One guy left? And he's Adam? I mean, I like Adam in the show better than Adam in the book, but that's probably leftover attachment to the actor as John Connor. (And the girl playing Faye looks SO MUCH like Summer Glau, I keep expecting her to act all terminator all of the sudden.)

It's true, the actor was bad. And kind of baby faced for my vision of Nick. But honestly, the trailer made him out to be so different from the books, I was just grateful to see Nick mostly being Nick. Now you have me curious about how they've fixed this. I think I shall watch the latest episode tonight.

Oh, please, don't apologise. Tyler and Caroline are very distracting as far as I'm concerned. They are such a hardcore OTP for me--the level at which I am obsessed with them is probably unhealthy.

LOL! That's all I'm probably going to think of from now on while watching her on the show.

Again, because I haven't read the books, I don't know if you'll think their explanation will be decent or come off as just a bunch of handwaving to quickly insert a new character into the mix. It does make sense to me as a viewer because of the whole witch thing being hereditary, so I bought it.

I've read the books, and I think the fix works. I was totally shocked when they killed off Nick, though. But it just goes to show you that no one is safe. :) But i think they introduced a really interesting twist with the last episode.
